Web Application Developer

Datavalet, a software and network solution provider based in Montreal, is seeking a Web Application Developer to develop applications related to current company products as well as future offerings. This is a full-time permanent position in Montreal, Quebec.

Job Description

You must have extensive knowledge of Object Oriented Programming concepts, C, PHP, HTML (without the help of an HTML WYSIWYG editor), JavaScript, and CSS; and solid experience with Sendmail, Sessions, Background Processes, Resource Allocation and Apache. You will be expected to plan, research, develop logic, code, test, and deploy Web projects with minimal assistance. You should know how to build a web application from the ground up, using Perl, Python and/or PHP.

Responsibilities

This role centers on the integration and development of a managed network platform;
Write high quality code and draft technical specifications while following company standards and processes;
Work with management to understand and refine application requirements.

Required Skills and Knowledge

Strong understanding of object oriented programming and programming principles;
Advanced knowledge of Web protocols and programming requirements;
Advanced knowledge of UNIX operating system (primarily Linux) and Apache;
Strong understanding of PERL, Python and PHP;
Good understanding of MySQL database (developer fundamentals);
Collaborate with the design team to define the information architecture, advocating Web interaction design best practices with a focus on consistency and usability;
Independent, strong problem solving and communication skills;
Ability to communicate effectively in writing, verbally and as a presenter;
Fluency in both English and French is an asset. Excellent knowledge of one of the two languages is mandatory;
Fan of agile development, unit testing, refactoring;
Ensure quality of work through development and implementation of QA procedures and standards;
Willingness to lead in a structured team environment.

Required Experience

Several years’ experience designing and implementing rich web applications;
Experience with building highly interactive, highly trafficked, database driven web applications.
